SlideShark – View PowerPoint on the iPad

We have discussed presentations for business using an iPad previously. Today we’ll be looking at SlideShark in more depth.

We have blogged about SlideShark before, it’s a free mobile app which converts PowerPoint presentations and enables them to be run from the iPad, we like it a lot and have recently used it on several live projects too. There are lots of good things to recommend this tool, however there are still a few niggling issues which let it down too – namely a lack of compatibility with PowerPoint transitions, font problems, and difficulty in editing and long upload/conversion times for large presentations. The good news is that developments are constantly being made; in the most recent update, fading slide transitions have been added for the first time which is a welcomed addition, so watch this space, it can only get better.

Ease of use: Uploading and downloading is a simple process via a secure SlideShark login process on the PC and through the app on the iPad.

Cost: SlideShark is free to use and includes 100mb of storage space for presentations. Other priced packages are available if extra capacity is needed to store more or complex presentations.

Final thoughts: We really like SlideShark. The conversion process is simple, it’s free for most users and once converted, the presentations support most of the features from PowerPoint. The only limitation is editing functionality on the iPad and the upload/conversion times for large presentations. Although the SlideShark team have added the fade transition in a recent update, it still lacks all of the others available in PowerPoint.
